BACKGROUND:
Marvel wiki, Comic Vine wiki, Wikipedia.

Kamala's universe has a long history of superheroes and -villains, from supersoldiers, to mutants, to people with alien DNA and aliens themselves. Kamala's involvement in her world's superheroism started before she got her powers, when she wrote top-rated fanfics on Freaking Awesome, their universe's FF.net. She's a huge shipper, with fantasy superhero team-up brackets. She wears Captain America t-shirts and has Captain Marvel bookbags and posters. Basically, she's us.

Or she was, until late one night, after sneaking out to go to a party, when Kamala got exposed to the Terrigen Mists: a mutation-causing fog which awakens powers in those with Inhuman heritage (aka people whose ancestors were experimented on by aliens called the Kree). Kamala hallucinated a vision of her favorite heroes asking her who or what she wanted to be. When she responded "I want to be you," she broke out of her cocoon, transformed into Ms. Marvel herself! Well, sort of. What really happened was that Kamala gained polymorph abilities, allowing her to alter the size and shape of her body. She almost immediately used her abilities to save one of her classmates from drowning, and a few days later used them again to stop her best friend Bruno's store from getting robbed. In the process of foiling the would-be robbery, Kamala-as-Ms-Marvel was shot. Luckily for her, she had a latent healing ability, which only worked when she was in her own form, thereby revealing her secret identity to Bruno.

Kamala then decided to fight crime and protect her friends and her city as a new Ms. Marvel, complete with super-stretchy costume and everything. In her relatively short time as a superhero, she's teamed up with both Spider-Man and Wolverine, two heroes who she both majorly geeked out over and learned a lot from. From Spider-Man she learned such valuable lessons as "There's a time to banter and a time to run," and from Wolverine, she learned that while you can avoid hurting others, the pain tends to circle around, and you may just end up getting hurt yourself.

When Kamala admitted to Wolverine that her origin story involved that mysterious green mist, he immediately realized that she was an Inhuman, and he alerted Medusa, Queen of the Inhumans, to her presence. Medusa sent her giant teleporting dog, Lockjaw, to watch over and help Kamala, which he did dutifully. After a giant robot sent by Kamala's arch nemesis the Inventor (a clone of Thomas Edison infused with cockatiel DNA [I couldn't make this up if I tried]) attacked Kamala's high school in retribution for her foiling his plans to use wayward teenagers as batteries for his inventions, and Kamala passed out from the exhaustion of fighting the Inventor's giant robot and healing herself at the same time, Lockjaw summoned Medusa to bring Kamala to New Attilan, the Inhumans city. There, she was seen to by the Inhuman Royal Family's personal doctor, Vinatos, and invited to stay by Medusa. Kamala declined, stating that the Inventor had made things personal by attacking her school, and that she herself would see to stopping him.

Kamala infiltrated the abandoned power plant where the Inventor hides out, with the help of some of the teenagers he'd brainwashed into helping him, and is about to lay on the smack down when he reveals that he has dozens of other teenagers hooked up as living batteries. It is at this point that Kamala will be 'Ported into the game.

PERSONALITY:
Kamala is nerdy, kind, and hard-working. As a teenager, she has a lot of self-doubt and is going through a constant process of rediscovery of who she is, especially after she develops her powers. At one point, she wonders, "What if I don't fit into my old life anymore? […] Would I still be Kamala?" Even further complicating things is Kamala's identity as a Pakistani-American, and a Muslim. She wants dearly to honor her family, religion, and culture, but she just as badly wants to fit in with her peers. She wants to go out partying, but she doesn't want to get drunk or make out with boys or eat bacon or anything that would go against her beliefs. She is on the one hand a shy, nice girl who believes the best in everyone (notably her classmate Zoe, who is sickeningly patronizing to Kamala and her friends) and has trouble correcting substitute teachers when they mispronounce her name. But on the other hand, she's a brave, outspoken, headstrong girl who isn't afraid to stand up for what's right and protect her community, even if that means putting herself in danger.

Kamala is a lifelong gamer and fan. She plays World of Battlecraft and other RPGs, she makes sci-fi references with her friends, and her fanfics regularly get thousands of upvotes. At the same time, Kamala is a devout Muslim, and while she doesn't wear a hijab or anything, she keeps halal and attends weekly youth lectures at the local mosque. She's infamous for not keeping quiet during these lectures, much to Sheikh Abdullah's chagrin, but she still learns from them.

One thing she learns is that if she's going to disobey her parents in order to help people in need, she should do it with "the qualities befitting an upright young woman: courage, strength, honesty, compassion, and self-respect." She tries to keep these words and all the other advice she's gotten from both heroes and civilians in mind when she goes out heroing. In fact, just before embarking on her first ever act of heroism, Kamala recalled a verse from the Quran that her father often quotes that says, "Whoever kills one person, it is as if he has killed all of mankind, and whoever saves one person, it is as if he has saved all of mankind."

Kamala's transformation into a superhero began with the problem of self-doubt and being unsure in her identity. She didn't know what to do, who to be, or how to balance the Pakistani/Muslim and American/teenager parts of her life. Through her heroism, she has not only found a purpose, but found a way to forge a new identity as both Ms. Marvel, and as Kamala Khan, the heart behind Ms. Marvel. Kamala still struggles with her identity, but she's definitely taking steps on the right path toward self-assuredness.

Part of Kamala's journey is learning to be the voice of her generation. Her nemesis, the Inventor, is literally using teenagers as a power supply, because he has them convinced that that's all they're good for, and that if they don't submit to his designs, they're committing egregious waste. Kamala instead convinces them that they have lives that are worth something, and bright futures as engineers or politicians or computer programmers. She's a good motivational speaker, and it's through this that she's able to get these teens to help her take down the Inventor.

POWER:
Kamala's canon superpowers can be broken down into two main categories, with a few sub-categories.

1) Polymorphism: Kamala can change the shape and size of her body. This can be either her whole body, or it can be isolated to just parts of her body (i.e. lengthening her legs to take longer strides or enlarging her fists to smash enemies).
1a) Proportional Strength: Force = mass x acceleration. Therefore, more mass = more force. When Kamala is supersized, she also has super strength.
1b) Shape Shifting: Kamala can use her polymorph abilities to change her appearance into someone (or something) else entirely. She has canonically shape shifted into the original Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers), her mom, a mannequin, and a sofa. Caveat: the more Kamala uses her other abilities, the less she is able to use her shape shifting ability.

2) Healing Factor: Kamala can heal anything from minor aches to bullet wounds, but she can only do so while in her true form, and using her healing ability too much causes her to become tired, as though the ability was drawing energy from her life force itself.

In terms of power limitations, I'm comfortable either keeping her powers as is, if the mods believe they fall under two "umbrella" powers as I've described them, or eliminating the shape shifting, if the mods believe that the proportional strength counts as its own "umbrella." However the mods want to decide that is fine by me.

〈 CHARACTER SAMPLES 〉
COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:

[ So this smartphone dealio is a lot cooler than Kamala's ACME brand phone back home. For one thing, while her old phone had a video camera, it couldn't do wide-broadcast video calls like this.

Kamala is sitting in a diner, sipping on a milkshake which the soda jerk ensured her was halal (or kosher at least, which is close enough for her), and spinning in her seat as she records the following: ]

Hey, Heropa! New ImPort here, and I've got a few questions. First of all, what's up with the whole hero-registration thing? Isn't it a little "been there, done that?" [ She sips her milkshake. ] What're peoples' opinions on whether or not heroes should register with the government? I'm looking for pros and cons here. I don't want to go making an uninformed decision.

[ She figures it's okay to basically out herself as a hero, seeing as everyone yanked here seems to be in the same boat. ]

Secondly, does anyone know where the local masjid is? Or where I could buy a shalwar kameez? I'm not, like, über-fanatical-religious or anything, but I still have this weird feeling that my parents would know if I didn't go to mosque.

[ She takes another sip of her milkshake, looking pensive. Eventually she decides that's all she has to ask (she wants to know what the fanfic situation is like, but that's a bit too dorky to ask right off the bat). ]

Yeah, that's it. Kamala out!

LOGS POST (PROSE) SAMPLE:

They gave her a tattoo and a folder with her information in it, then put her in a car and told her they were bringing her to her new home. She'd be upset and protest that Jersey City is her home, but she's in shock, she thinks. One hand keeps rubbing over the spot on her wrist where they put the tattoo. Ammi's going to kill me, she thinks. Tattoos are haram. Forbidden. "The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) cursed the one who does tattoos, and the one who has a tattoo done." What about the one who had the tattoo forcibly done against her will? Is she cursed too? What if the tattoo means she's a part of something greater, something that will help people?

Because that's what they brought her here to do, right? Be a hero, help save people? Never mind the fact that she was trying to do just that back home with the Inventor. Never mind the fact that her family is going to be pissed off worried sick about her if she can't come home. Not to mention Bruno. Or Nakia. Poor Nakia doesn't even know she's Ms. Marvel, and now here she is, in costume, in Florida of all places! Some alternate universe Florida where the Superhero Registration Act apparently never happened or is still happening or something. Seriously, with everything that's going on, Kamala's head is still spinning.

She asks the driver if it's okay if they stop so she can go to the bathroom. Really, she just wants everything to stop for a minute so she can figure things out. Why she's here, what she's supposed to do, whether she should even agree to register with the government here or not. She always stayed away from the Registration as a topic in her fics, preferring to write action or shippy stuff instead. Huge political controversies weren't her idea of a good time. But here she was smack dab in the middle of one. Le sigh.

The driver agrees, and pulls over. As soon as Kamala steps out of the car, her brightly colored costume draws the attention of people passing by, and they start taking pictures. Some of them ask if they can take a picture with her, and she agrees politely. After one or two of these superhero selfies, her smile is actually starting to feel real again. She even volunteers to hold the camera away at a good angle with her arm superstretched out for one of them. In the end, she feels a lot better about being here, and decides she doesn't need to find a bathroom after all. It's not that she likes the fame aspect of it, but more like she's realized that the people living here are like she was, and she now knows she wants to do what she can to help them.

After all, that's what she's here for.

FINAL NOTES:
Kamala will be coming in wearing her Ms. Marvel costume, which consists of red leggings and sleeves, blue burkini overdress with a yellow lightning bolt symbol, blue domino mask, blue boots, red scarf and gold bracelet.
